Yvonne Rainer is a California-born American dancer, choreographer, and filmmaker. She works in these disciplines considering it as a challenge and experiment. Sometimes her works are categorized as minimalist art.
Yvonne is a MacArthur Fellows Program award winner for her contribution to dance in 1990 and also received the Foundation for Contemporary Art’s Merce Cunningham Award.

The American dancer Yvonne Rainer was born in San Francisco, California on 24th November 1934. She was born to Joseph and Jeanette.
Her mother Jeanette was a stenographer, Born in Brooklyn to Jewish immigrants from Warsa and Joseph was a stonemason and house painter from Italy.
Rainer grew up with her older brother in San Francisco. She grew up in a community full of Protestant working-class families.
Yvonne Rainer was exposed to Poets, painters, writers, and Italian anarchists at the age of 12.
Her father would take her to foreign films at the Palace of the Legion of Honor, and her mother took her to ballet and opera. This influenced her to enter the art field and pursue her career as a dancer and filmmaker.

Yvonne Rainer first started performing at the Judson Memorial Chruch. Her dance performance focused on sounds and movements and often juxtaposed the two in arbitrary combinations.
Yvonne’s choreography combined classical dance steps compared with pedestrian movement.
Her first choreographed piece, Three Satie Spoons was a combination of repetition and sound. This was her solo in three parts performed by Rainer, and Eric Satie’s Trois Gymnopedies.
Yvonne Rainer’s next choreography was a combination of movements and narrative that featured the repetition of simple movements. Her one of famous works is Trio A (1966).
In 1972 she experimented with directing featured-length films. Her films had a feminist tone and tried to portray how the female body was being viewed or objectified by male directors.
Her few experimental films and dances are Lives of Performers (1972), Film About a Woman Who (1974), and Kristina Talking Pictures (1976).
