The Boston Red Sox drafted him in the 5th round of the draft and selected him as a shortstop.

In 2009, he played for the Greenville Drive of the Class A South Atlantic League, where he batted with an average of .265 with 7 home runs and 57 RBIs.

In 2010, he played for the Salem Red Sox and batted with an average of .276 with 70 RBIs, and 12 home runs.

On May 2, 2012, he was finally promoted in the Major League by the Red Sox.
