Linda MacLennan was born on May 25, 1956, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She is the daughter of a Canadian father, Douglas R. MacLennan, and an American mother, Miriam Hedge. Her father worked as a director with the Fitness Institute in Toronto while her mother is a teacher.

She received a degree from Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario. Linda is naturalized American nationality and belongs to white ethnicity.

MacLennan decided to pursue a career in print journalism but switched to broadcasting after a college internship at CJOH-TV in Ottawa, Ontario. She co-anchored Canada AM on CTV from 1985 to 1987. Linda left CTV to join WBBM-TV in Chicago as a reporter and late afternoon co-anchor in March 1987.

She then became WBBM-Tv’s 10 p.m. co-anchor, replacing Walter Jacobson in the anchor chair along with Bill Kurtis.  Also, she appeared on the pilot episode of Early Edition as a newscaster.
