Kyla Ross started gymnastics at the age of three. She trained at Greenville Gymnastics Training Center. Later, she also trained at Richmond Olympiad and Gym-Max Gymnastics in Costa Mesa, California.
Her training and coaches provided her platform for her career. From 2005 to 2007, she managed to win five state titles and two national titles. Later in 2008, she also participated and managed to win the Junior Olympic national championships.

In 2010 and 2011, Kyla Ross helped the U.S. National Team win other medals, including two team gold medals at the Pacific Rim Championships and the City of Jesolo Trophy, respectively.
Later in 2011, she competed at the U.S. Covergirl Classic in Chicago, Illinois, and placed first in both the all-around and uneven bars events, and placed second on the vault.
She earned a spot on the U.S. Olympic women’s gymnastics team in 2012. In late July of 2012, Ross won an Olympic team gold medal, along with teammates Jordyn Wieber, Gabby Douglas, Aly Raisman and McKayla Maroney.
Kyla Ross was slated to compete at the 2013 American Cup but withdrew because of an ankle injury. However, she performed an exhibition balance beam routine after the competition had ended. Ross was slated to compete at the 2014 American Cup but withdrew because of a back injury.
In March, she competed at the City of Jesolo Trophy, where she won gold medals in the team and all-around competitions. Also, she won silver on uneven bars and floor exercise but finished sixth on the balance beam.
Although, she continued her success at the 2017 NCAA championships. Despite falling on both of her floor exercise routines during the regular season, she performed her routine well during the semifinals, scoring a career-high 9.825.
By earning these two national titles, Ross made history as the first female gymnast to become an Olympic, World, and NCAA Champion
