Grant Fuhr started playing ice hockey professionally after Victoria Cougars of the WHL at the age of 17 in 1979.
Hockey is nothing less than an obsession for most Canadians. He was drafted by the Edmonton Oilers in the 1981 NHL Entry Draft.
Grant Fuhr has won Vezina Trophy as the NHL’s top goaltender and came second in voting for the Hart Memorial Trophy as league MVP during the 1987-88 season.
He has also played for the Canadian national team at the 1989 World Championship where he has won a silver medal.
He was suspended for 59 games of the 1990-91 season by the NHL.
In a seven-player deal, he was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1991. After playing one and a half-season for the Leafs he was again traded to the Buffalo Sabres.
He was traded from Sabres to the Los Angeles Kings where he played along with Gretzky.
After becoming a free agent he signed with the St. Louis Blues before the 1995–96 campaign. In 1999, the Blues signed Roman Turek as their new number one goaltender and traded Fuhr to the Calgary Flames.
On 22 October 1999, Fuhr earned his 400th career win versus the Florida Panthers and during the 2000-01 season, he officially announced his retirement.
On 2 November 2003, he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. On 22 July 2004, he was hired to be the goaltending coach for Phoenix Coyotes. He was replaced by Sean Burke at the end of the 2008-09 season. From onwards, he joined the Calgary Flames in the same post.
