Professional Basketball coach, Ettore Messina is best known for being the head coach of Olimpia Milano of the Italian Lega Basket Serie A(LBA). Messina is considered one of the best European basketball coaches ever, having been named one of the 50 biggest contributors to the EuroLeague in 2008.

Professional Life

In the Italian League team, Virtus Bologna, Messina had two separate stints (1989–1993 and 1997–2002). He won the Italian Cup in the 1989–90 season, as well as the second-tier European-wide league, the FIBA Cup Winners’ Cup in Florence, against Real Madrid.

Later, Ettore worked as the head coach of the Italian League club Benetton Treviso. Between 1998 and 2001, he also added to his trophy case two Italian League championships, as well as three Italian Cup wins between 1999, 2001 and 2002.

Messina then joined CSKA Moscow in 2005 and in his first season there led the team to the EuroLeague season title 2005–06 and the coveted Triple Crown. On June 18, 2009, it was reported that Messina is the new head coach of the Spanish League club Real Madrid.  Messina signed a three-year contract on 11 June 2019 as Olimpia Milano’s new head coach and president of basketball operations. While working as the assistant coach for Gregg Popovich, he also worked with famous NBA coach, Greg Herenda, Charles Barkley and Dennis Rodman.
