Darren Sharper was selected in the second round of the 1997 NFL Draft by The Green Bay Packers. His brother, Jamie Sharper, also got the opportunity to play in the second season.

He got an offer as the backup free safety, behind Eugene Robinson, to start the regular season. He debuted the regular season in the Green Bay Packer’s season-opening 38-24 win against the Chicago Bears and made his first career tackle during a 38-22 win against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 4. Darren made his first career interception for his first touchdown during a 20-10 loss to the Detroit Lions in Week 10.

Darren Sharper was officially named the starting free safety to begin the regular season by the Head coach Mike Holmgren after he entered training camp in 1998. He made his debut in the Green Bay Packer’s season opener against the Detroit Lions. He made his three combined tackles in their 38-19 victory.

Darren was retained by the defensive coordinator as the starting safeties to start the regular season. He made ten combined tackles (eight solos), two pass deflections, and an interception in 31-23 win against the Baltimore Ravens on October 4, 2001, and Sharper recorded seven combined tackles, deflected two passes, and returned an interception for a touchdown as the Packers defeated the Miami Dolphins 24–10 on November 4, 2002.
