During the Vietnam War, Art Bell served as a surgeon in the ‘US Air Force,’ and he and a comrade launched an illegal pirate radio station from ‘Amarillo Air Force Base,’
Playing anti-war tunes. After the war, he moved to Japan and worked as a DJ for ‘KSBK,’ the country’s first civil English broadcasting station. In the 1970s, he traveled to the United States and worked for ‘KIDD’ in Monterey, California.
He began his career as a rock music DJ before transitioning to host radio debate shows.
With his talk show ‘Dreamland,’ he moved beyond traditional political problems to more controversial topics such as gunrunning, the occult, UFOs, pseudoscience, conspiracy theories, and protoscience.
