Tommy Sims is an American bassist, songwriter, record producer, and bandleader.
He has worked with some of the famous names in the music industry including Michael Bolton, Amy Grant, Kelly Clarkson, Carman, CeCe Winans, Israel, and The Neville Brothers among others.
Tommy Sims: Early Life, Childhood, and Education
Sims was born in Chicago, Illinois on 23rd August 1960. His family was all involved in music to a greater or lesser extent. Additionally, his mother and two sisters were singers.
Throughout his childhood years, she mainly listened to Gospel music, although his uncles played secular music by the likes of the Temptations and Smokey Robinson & the Miracles.
Furthermore, he began listening to secular music on a more regular basis after he was eight years old. He is of American nationality. Furthermore, he belongs to the African-American ethnicity.
Talking about his education, Sims graduated from Cassopolis Ross Beatty High School in 1983.

Sims initially was the bassist of the popular Christian rock band White Heart from 1987 to 1989. Additionally, from 1992 to 1993, he played bass on the Bruce Springsteen and the “Other Band” Tour.
He is also a songwriter, who co-wrote Eric Clapton’s ‘Change the World’ which won the Grammy Award for Song of the Year in 1997.
Sims also produced a Grammy-winning CD, ‘Thy Kingdom Come’ for CeCe Winans in 2007. He released a solo album in August 2000 entitled ‘Peace and Love’.
Additionally, Tommy Sims has gone on to have his songs featured in several other blockbuster films including Kevin Costner’s ‘For Love Of The Game’ and Natalie Portman and Ashley Judd’s ‘Where the Heart Is’.
Sims won the ASCAP Award in 1997 for ‘Phenomenon’ in the category of Most Performed Songs from Motion Pictures. Additionally, he also garnered the OFTA Film Award nomination in 1997.
Furthermore, Tommy Sims was awarded a Grammy for Song of the year for penning the tune ‘Change The World’ in 1996.
