Josie Long is a British comedian. She had started performing as a stand-up at the age of 14 and won the BBC New Comedy Awards at 17. She had also won the If comedies Best Newcomer award for her show Kindness and Exuberance in 2006.

The great comedian, Josie Long was born on 17 April 1982 in Sidcup, England. But she had spent her early life in Orpington, London, where she attended Newstead Wood School for Girls and was in Swift House.

When she was at the age of 14, she began performing as a comedian. She had won the BBC New Comedy Awards at the age of 17. She had also attended Michael Knighton’s comedy course in Beckenham, Kent.

And when she turned 18,  she gave up stand-up whilst attending Lady Margaret Hall, University of Oxford, though she ran experimental comedy clubs while at university, and graduated with a degree in English.

In the same year, she had contributed sketches and one-liners to BBC Radio One’s comedy show, The Milk Run. In 2006 she won the If.comeddies Best Newcomer award at the Fringe for her show Kindness and Exuberance.

But in 2007/2008 she had acted on Trying is Good which often involved drawing a sea scene on her arms and stomach. She had a love of applique and the V&A Museum, and live Boggle contests sometimes form a part of her performances.

In 2014, she had performed seven solo shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and performed five subsequent UK tours in the springs of 2007, 2008, and 2009, Autumn 2010, and spring of 2012. She had also appeared in the Melbourne International Comedy Festival in 2007–10, the Adelaide Fringe Festival, the New Zealand Comedy Festival, and the Montreal Just For Laughs Festival in 2008.

One of her shows, Trying is Good was nominated for the Barry Award in Melbourne in the same year. In 2009 Josie Long toured her show All of the Planet’s Wonders, playing 14 dates during February and March. Similarly, from 2010-2012 she had been nominated for the Edinburgh Comedy Award for Best Show three times, Be Honourable!, The Future Is Another Place, and Romance & Adventure. In 2010, she has been involved with the anti–tax-avoidance activist group UK Uncut.

But in 2011, she had occasion promoted these groups through her stand-up and has also performed stand-up at protests. Since 2013 Josie Long had been the presenter on BBC Radio 4’s Short Cuts. She had also appeared on television from 2009-2016. In 2009 she appeared in Maeve Higgins’ Fancy Vittles, The Bubble in 2010, The Matt Lucas Awards in 2013, Fifteen to One in 2014, Celebrity Fifteen to One in 2015, and Dara O’Briain’s Go 8-Bit in 2016.
