Donna Dixon was born as Donna Lynn Dixon on July 20, 1957, in Alexandria, Virginia, the United States of America. She is the daughter of Earl Dixon, owner of a nightclub in US 1 called Hillbilly Heaven.
Donna joined Groveton High School and graduated in 1975. Later, she attended George Washington University but dropped out.

Dixon started her career as a model and in 1976 she was named Miss Virginia USA and in 1977 Miss Washington D.C. World. She co-starred the situation comedy Bosom Buddies with Tom Hanks in the early 1980s, playing Sonny Lumet’s role.
